The St. Thomas Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church Mazhuvannoor is one of the famous churches in Angamaly Diocese, under the holy see of Antioch. The governing of the church is as per the constitution of Jacobite Christian Association (2002). The church has around 1350 parishers in and around Thattamugal, Mangalathunada, Valamboor, Ezhupram, Mazhuvannoor, Kadakanad and Mangaatoor. Two chapels in Mangalathunada and Thattamugal, and various 'kurisupallys' on other areas have been established by the church. Rev. Fr. Elias Eeralil, Rev. Fr. Issac Punnasseriyil, Rev. Fr. Geevarghese Koottalil, Rev. Fr. Eldhose Palakunnel, Rev. Fr. John Kulangattil and Rev. Fr. Saji Chambalil are members of this church.

Earlier, the members of the church were belonged to the St. George Church Kadamattam, which was about 5 kms away from the present chruch. It was difficult for the believers to walk such a long distance (there was no transportation at that time) to attend the worship. Moreover, they nessed boats to flee during monsoon. At this point of time, taking the interests of the believers into consideration, the holy church has been constructed using straw and fencing and the first Holy Mass was conducted by Rev. Fr. Daniel Nedumbrath on the 14th of "Kanni Masam" of the Malayalam era 1037. The church with thatched roof has been there for about 30 years.

"A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Proverbs 29:23 (KJV)"

In the year 1067 of the Malayalam era, the church was graced with the presence of Chathuruthil Gregorious thirumeni. Seeing the pathetic condition of the church, thirumeni made necessary arrangements for the renovation. As a result, the church was reconstructed and the building on the right side of the church was also made by the contributions of the believers. Rev. Fr. Daniel Nedumbrath, Rev. Fr. Thomas Venapadath, Rev. Fr. Geevarghese Kulangattil are just a few of the icons who rendered services in this church. In the Malayalam era 1077, Chathuruthil Gregorious thirumeni visited again and was hearty seeing the completed Holy church. He also blessed the village of Mazhuvannoor commanding that the Periyar river would flow amidst the village and give rich harvests. After a couple of years the agriculture was enriched with the help of the water from the Periyar river which flowed through the village as a result of the Periyar Valley Canal Project. To commemorate thirumeni, the church celebrates his death anniversary on November 1st, 2nd and 3rd of every year.

In A.D 1919, the representative of the Antioch throne, Sleeba mar Osthathios bava graced the church with his presence and established the remnant of the Mar Kouma, which was a lampstand of hope for thousands.

Though the old church was beautiful, space constraints made it inadequate for all the believers to take part in the worship. The General Body meeting that held in 2004 decided to construct a new church. The Catholicos Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I laid the foundation stone, which was blessed by the Patriarchs of Antioch, on ddmmyyy. HH Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas. The construction of the new church progressed quickly on the abundant grace of the Almighty and the direct supervision of Rev. Fr. Varghese Njattumkalayil, Rev. Fr. Eldose Molekudiyil, Rev. Fr. Eldose Chirangara and trustees P.E. Jacob Punnasseriyil and K. P. George Kodiyattil as well as with the cooperation of the devotional bodies and believers of the Parish.

In the presence of Catholicos Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I and other bishops, HH Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas conducted the Holy Mooron Consecration of the renovated church on 27th of October, 2008.
